The use of simulations and/or games can be useful in the e-learning environment.  As long as the simulation is practicing or teaching, then the techniques is useful to the education process.  Students can be asked to carry out mindless tasks that do not enhance their critical thinking skills.  This is a key point for the use of any technique.  Additionally, since our young generation is used to games and simulations, it may create an easy learning environment for students.  Through the use of games, I have seen students love practicing their multiplication facts as oppose to the old ways of writing them out.  There is no research that proves that students do better through games.  They may learn just as much.  However, it is shown that it is easier to learn with techniques that they are used to working with.
